War Memorial Resoration

Restoration Fund

2014 will mark 100 years since the start of the First World War and we are working along side Warrington Borough Council to repair the Great Sankey and Penketh War Memorial and restore it to its former glory.

A structural engineer's report, and quotations, have been obtained and we now need to find a considerable amount of money to fund the repairs, approximately £4900. In addition we wish to add to the bronze plaques that are already on the monument with matching new ones (in line with the Memorial's listed status) dedicated to those who have fallen since the end of the Second World War. Additional funding will be required for the plaques.

Clearly we cannot do all we need to without funds and we are therefore launching a Restoration Fund Appeal. Any amount you can give, no matter how small, would be gratefully received and will help us to reach our goal of having this work completed for the Remembrance Day Parade in 2014.

Any donations should be sent

c/o 62 Marina Avenue, Great Sankey, Warrington, WA5 1JQ.

Cheques should be made payable to Friends of St. Mary's Cemetery.
If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact us via the "Contact" page on this site.

If anybody has any information, photographs or stories about this, or any other aspects of the cemetery, we would love to hear from you.
